Now schools across Australia are heading into (or have already started) their term 1 holidays, I thought it would be a good time to provide a wrap-up of the best posts and resources from the last ten weeks. As always, term 1 has been incredibly busy. If you’re about to go into the holidays, I hope you get a well earned rest!

Practical AI Strategies

At the start of term, I published my latest book, Practical AI Strategies. It has been incredibly well received and has already made its way into schools and higher education providers globally. Around the time of the launch, I published these posts:

Teaching AI Writing

Over February, I published six posts on Teaching AI Writing, following the writing cycle from my previous book, Practical Writing Strategies. Here’s the first post in the series:

Long Reads

I also published a number of “long reads” in January-March. These articles are longer (obviously) and typically cover some of the more contentious or challenging aspects of GenAI in education:

Assessment and policy

Finally, I published a few articles about policy, frameworks, and assessment, including this video breakdown of the Australian Framework for GenAI in Schools, and a new preprint article exploring a pilot study of our AI Assessment Scale:

Coming soon in term 2…

In term two, I’ll pick up where I left off with AI and assessment, focusing on how schools and higher education providers can get more strategic with their assessment practices in order to account for changes in society and technology. I’ll also be looking at what GenAI can do right now including a comprehensive exploration of text, image, audio, video, and code generation.

In term 2, I will also be updating the popular Practical Strategies for ChatGPT in Education post from 2023. The original article was published in January 2023, just as ChatGPT was hitting the mainstream. Over 12 months on, we have an abundance of apps to chose from, but some core methods for prompting and using GenAI still apply.
