Help yourself to a free mini-ebook, If You Know, You Know. This ebook is a collection of articles from 2026 which addresses the “ceiling” of our mental models on what AI is and how it works. In the original articles, I argued that various design issues prevent us from easily learning what AI is capable of. The “chatbot” interface in particular is unhelpful, and gets in the way of more sophisticated use. Accessibility, the transferability of skills across domains, and the general usability of GenAI also slow us down.
While writing the original articles, I asked readers of the blog to submit their weird and out of the ordinary uses of GenAI. From the examples sent in, I drew out some general principles for using AI beyond the chatbot.
